Opal Flight Construction - April 11, 1999

Flight construction on Opal continues. This is the first full assembly of the satellite to verify structural alignment.

  • Carlos works on the bottome solar panel integration. Due to the LVI, we did not come up with a good way to build a bottom solar panel protector. It was bare and therefore susceptible to damage.
  • The fully assembled power tray. The dangling wires lead to higher trays. The six bare connectors on the right are for solar panels.

  • Internal view of Opal. The long white wires are the coax cabling for the antenna system. They have not been trimmed and fitted yet.
  • Closeup of two of Opal's external plugs. The top one is the arming plug for the pico launcher. The bottom one is the external power/recharge connector.
  • Carlos assembles a solar panel. He is working on the diode isolation circuitry of the panels.
  • Labeling of magnetometer axises. And I'm not sure it's correct!
