Opal and Sapphire

During construction, it was inspiring to see Opal and Sapphire sitting there together. Both of SSDL's satellite were together on the work bench. An immense amout of dedication and hard work rests there together.

  • Here's a great picture of Opal and her big brother Sapphire.
  • Opal in the clean room without solar panels attached. You can see the accelerometer payload on the top tray, the auxilary receiver on the middle tray, and one of the battery packs on the bottom tray.
  • Another picture of Opal without panels.
  • Opal sits next to Sapphire. It's amazing what's underneath all those panels. Sapphire looks clean and simple. Opal looks like a chaotic collection of connectors!
  • Opal in a state of assembly sits next to Sapphire. Check out Jak, Artemis's first picosatellite, between the two.
  • It's too bad all our work will be covered with solar panels! Jak is still there...
