Opal Near Completion
Opal sits near completion on the assembly workbench.

Close up of pico launcher doors. The Artemis VLF picos are on top. The Darpa/Aerospace picos are on the lower left. The Artemis JAK and HAM STENSAT are on the lower right.

Sitting together in the clean room are Opal and Sapphire. Opal is near completion and awaiting placement of solar panel sides. The gold cylinders in the middle of Opal are the NEA actuators used to release the picosatellite doors. The silver box in the middle is the picosatellite firing and telemetry circuitry. Alot of wires eh? That's why Opal was six pounds over margin!

This shows the other side of Opal. Once again you can see the gold NEA cylinders. The aluminum box in the middle next to the NEAs is the auxilary firing receiver. The aluminum box above that is part of the accelerometer/magnetometer testbed. Opal is resting on top of an old 386 PC, that's about the only thing that CPU is good for!
