Picosatellite Ops

The picosatellite ops team prepares for picosatellite ejection (February 1, 2000).

  • Mike Cousins, Big Dish Operator, gazes at the spectrum analyzer hoping for a tell-tale signal from Opal.
  • Mike sees a flatline on the scope.
  • Mike watches the computer controlled movement of the dish during a pass. The center red output is a clock and the two outputs below are the azimuth and elevation position.
  • Julie Townsend from Stanford anxiously awaits pico launch with the Aerospace ops team. Unfortunately, pico launch could not be commanded from Stanford's station. It was done later from the Big Dish.
  • The command console for the Big Dish.
  • Here's a closeup of the spectrum analyzer looking for a beacon from the Aerospace picosatellites at 915MHz. The signal is just noise (I think).
  • Another shot of the command console for the Big Dish.
  • Here's a closeup of the analyzer flatlined. Interesting eh?
  • Guess you have to wear plaid to be a part of the team.
