Final Outdoor Testing

These photos are from the final outdoor testing of Opal.

  • Opal sits outside during final testing. Not exactly a clean room, but we needed the sun to do solar panel testing.
  • Jamie communicates with Opal via a laptop and a small hand held radio.
  • A real ground station! Greg works Opal like a true trooper.
  • Zsolt studies Opal during testing of the pico firing circuitry. The red probe on the right of Opal is measuring the firing signals.
  • Fighting the sun glare, Greg and Jamie check things out from Opal.
  • Zsolt examines the launch doors of Opal.
  • Zoomed out view of testing scene. Greg and Jamie are off to the right. Opal, Zsolt, Amy, and Alejandro are on the left.
  • Zsolt studies Opal. The back panels of Opal have been removed to measure the pico firing signals.
  • A closeup of the back side of Opal. The gold cylinders are the non explosive actuators used to release the picos. The aluminum box trimmed in gold is one of the accelerometer boxes.
  • Jamie and Greg study Opal communication while fighting the sun.
  • Zsolt, Amy, and Alejandro check out Opal.
  • Jamie monitors pico firing lines while Greg commands launching.
  • Alejandro monitors pico firing lines while Greg commands launching.
  • Closeup of pico firing circuitry.
