Battery Recharging
Payloaders were allowed to recharge their batteries during a destack of the rocket in December of 1999. Bob Twiggs, John Ellis, and Jamie Cutler traveled to VAFB to perform the recharge.

Cutler attaches recharge cables to Opal. He practically fell off the ladder shock when there was a sudden flash as he connected the cables. Turns out Twiggs snapped a photo at the same time and the camera flashed!

Here's a closeup of the fourth stage of the rocket. The small red nozzles in the middler are thrusters. The spikey mechanism to the left of Opal in the middle is the SoftRide apparatus.

Cutler with a silly grin poses by the fence. He's wondering if the guards will shoot if he jumps the fence!
