Launch Pad During Battery Recharge: December, 27 1999

The following pictures were taken during the trip to Vandenberg to recharge Opal batteries. Opal batteries had not been charged for six months and it was decided to top them off. These are from a visit to the launch pad.

  • Prof. Twiggs and John Ellis look off into distance with the launch pad scaffolding behind them. The Minotaur is inside the white tower.
  • The rocket is protected from the elements by the white tower. The tower is supported by the scaffolding and is covered by a weather resistent white plastic.
  • Jamie Cutler stands at the fence with rocket in background.
  • Night falls at the pad. The white tower is illuminated from within. The dark shadow that stops half way up the tower on the right is the third and fourth stage of the rocket.
  • Another view of the launch pad and scaffolding.
  • The pad is near a cliff overlooking the ocean. It's quite a view especially with the sun setting.
