MPA Attachment, October 1999

Scott Schoneman from Oribtal sent these pictures to us from Vandenberg. They show the attachment of the Multi-Payload Adapter to the fourth stage of the launch vehicle.

  • JAWSAT is being brought into the assembly room. The trailer is in the background off to the right.
  • The MPA awaiting mating to the rocket.
  • Major B hopes for a ride!
  • The MPA being lowered on the release mechanisim.
  • The MPA is lowered JAWSAT release mechanism.
  • After a short break, the team returns to work. The team works on lifting harnesses to transport the payload.
  • The MPA is attached to the rocket. The fairing is off to the side. Is that the X-34 tail in the background?
  • Another view of the MPA attached to the rocket.
  • A successful OSSS team poses near all their (and our!) hard work.
