Opal Update -- January 27, 2000
  1. Launch was a success! The countdown was flawless! NORAD picked up five objects after launch confirming payload separation.

  2. On the second pass at Stanford at 4:30am this morning, the Opal beacon was heard! The following message was received:

    opal:0:1337193435 <01>

    This tells us the following:

    1. The primary battery power system is working. Good job Carlos!
    2. The panels might be working...the above beacon says we have a high voltage. This means our panels could be charging the batteries.
    3. The radio/TNC are working.
    4. The CPU set the TNC at least once.
We had trouble contacting Opal due to ground station problems. These are being resolved and we're getting ready for a 6am pass. Should be a good one.
