Opal in DoD Report E-mail

SSDL's small satellite technology was discussed in a recent DoD report on satellite technologies. See FAS Space Panel Report 5, Section 3, page 18 for a mention of Opal.  Cubesats are mentioned on page 17,   Thanks for the pointer Clem.

Kentucky joins the space race E-mail

KentuckySat (KySat) has joined SSDL this summer to partner on development of the Katysat mission.  KentuckySat is a joint-enterprise involving public organizations, private companies, colleges and universities in the design, build, launch and ground operation of small satellites for innovation and learning purposes. Several graduate students and professors from Kentucky have joined the Katysat development team to help put space technology in the hands of K-12 students.
Polar Technology Conference 2006 E-mail

Stanford University is hosting the 2nd annual Polar Technology Conference on the 12-13 of April at Moffett Field Technology Research Park in Mountain View (Moffett Field), California, USA. The primary purpose of this conference is to bring together polar scientists and polar technology groups for a planned technology development and to explain, discuss various technology issues they face during their projects.

SSDL mentor, Ron Ross, has journeyed to Antartica again this season.  As part of ICETREK, his mission down there is to explore the lifecycle of a drifting iceberg.  Check out their Mission Log.
